Sulfur

Sulfur is an essential nutrient (micro-mineral). It is a nonmetallic element that is essential for life. In most animals it represents about 0.25% of the body weight. However, sulfur is normally present as part of larger compounds, and the requirement for pure sulfur has not been determined for most species. In recent years, sulfur toxicity has become more common because of its high concentration in many byproduct feeds. The use of these feeds in ruminant diets is increasing, which in turn may increase the trace mineral requirement.
