A glass of infection protection

Drink a full 8 ounces of cranberry juice to douse the incipient fire of a bladder infection, say University of Washington researchers. They tested how much juice was needed to stop bacteria from sticking to bladder cells, the first step to an infection. They added infection-causing bacteria and human bladder cells to urine from women who'd drunk either 4 or 8 ounces of cranberry "cocktail" with 27% juice. Only 29% of bacteria stuck to cells from women who drank 8 ounces of juice, while 67% adhered to cells of women who drank 4 ounces of juice.
