Abstract:The article presents a study which shows that poor dietary carbohydrate quality may increase the risk of macular degeneration. The study used data from more than 4,000 participants in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study and revealed that low glycemic-index diet may lessen the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration. It was also predicted that poor carbohydrate would increase retinal risk through etiologic factors of diabetes and cardiovascular disease
