Vegetables are strong medicine in fight against colon cancer

Vegetables are strong medicine in the fight against colon cancer. Leafy, green, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage have been associated with a decreased risk of colon cancer. Research studies following large groups of people over many years have shown reduced colon cancer rates in those consuming the most vegetables and fruits. Part of their value comes from the rich antioxidant content, but they are also loaded with fiber, which as you know, is like a pipe cleaner for your digestive tract.

One important caveat: small diet changes are not of much use. Studies comparing people with a bit higher a bit lower intake of vegetables or other high-fiber foods have not shown much difference. To really help, you need to bring in the vegetables, fruits, and whole grains in a generous way.
