Homotoxicology and Pathology of the Urinary System

The pathology of the urinary system is quite characteristic as it is often serious and deep from the organic point of view. In the therapeutic approach we should take into account the possible presence of tissue damage which is often serious and stabilized. Classical Homeopathy seems to rely too much on man's vital energy and on his correct reaction and therefore administers a single remedy. It activates the reaction, but, as it finds a tissue altered from the biochemical point of view (often also because of exogenous toxicating elements), it sometimes causes worsening reactions without any following real clinical improvement.

We should also avoid limiting our analysis to a local and momentary act, healing just the tissue and its reactive disorders. In this way allopathy tends to cause subsequent and deeper organic imbalances.

Homotoxicology may be considered as the global approach to the problem; it proposes a many-sided therapeutic strategy that takes into consideration at least 5 elements:

1. Evaluation of the causative factor concerning the matter:

- prescription of a specific nosode with selective immunologic activation.

2. Evaluation of the damage's phase:

- prescription of a suitable cellular catalyst.

3. Evaluation of the kind of biochemical damage:

- prescription of a suitable cellular catalyst.

4. Evaluation of the organ causing the disease (not necessarily within the urinary system) and of the several organs involved in the pathology:

- prescription of suis organotherapeutics.

5. Evaluation of the specific characteristics and of the evolutive tendency of that disease in every particular patient:

- prescription of suitable and specific single remedies.

Every patient with specific involvement of the urinary system should be analyzed in this way; moreover, if it is possible, the Homotoxicological therapy should take into account all these elements.

Only if we are sure of the healing of the tissue damage or of its stabilization, will we be able to start a therapy of general stimulus on the patient's specific reactivity; this therapy is generally carried out applying the methods of classical homeopathy.

Inflammatory Illnesses of the Urinary System

Acute Illness

On Immunologic Basis

- Acute Glomerulonephritis

In this case the starting point is the inflammatory involvement of a lymphatic structure, which causes an abnormal immunologic response, if there is actually an unreactive basis.

Therefore, if we want to carry out a deep and really preventive therapy, we should take first of all into account the changing of the lymphatic system, which yields to the microbic colonization.

Quite often the basis of the lymphatic deficit must be looked for in a digestive metabolic problem; therefore a wise therapy should rebalance the pancreatic function according to the disease's phase, or correct a wrong diet often connected with an excessive rate of fats and carbohydrates.

On Infective Basis

- Acute Pyelonephritis

Generally in this case the starting point is an infection of the pelvic or abdominal organs. It is usually a toxic or metabolic change of the physiologic intestinal and urogenital bacterial flora; this change allows the flourishing of pathogenic agents; afterwards these agents damage also the renal parenchyma, because of the further fall of the tissues' natural defense. The first element we should take into consideration within a therapeutic strategy is the rebalancing of the physiologic bacterial flora thanks to the removal of some foci and the abstention from potentially toxic substances (antibiotics, vaccines, etc.).

Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis represent two specular aspects of the renal pathology: hyperreactivity and hyporeactivity. Glomerulonephritis develops quickly to a wrinkled kidney, whereas pyelonephritis has a quite long phase of renal hypertrophy.

Apart from the microbe, they represent two different reactive ways on the renal level, so the therapeutic plan should always take into account the nature of the disease and the required remedies, in order to act in a deep and physiological way.

Chronic Illnesses

Although the renal inflammatory chronic disease shows the same antatomic and pathologic aspects, it represents a morbid evolution that doesn't depend on etiologic or pathogenic agents; it develops because of specific and intrinsic tissue alterations. The most suited Homotoxicological therapy should be aimed at supporting the specific antidegenerative effort of the renal tissue and activate the specific organic functionality. When, through this therapy, the organ's sclerotic evolution has been arrested, the previously explained therapy will be applied taking into account the basic movements that increase the chronic event. The therapy of the two phases of the illness shouldn't be concomitant as it acts in two different ways. In the acute phase a basically vagotinizing therapy will be used in order to limit the damages connected to the inflammatory process; in the chronic phase, particularly when the process has developed, a sympathicotonizing therapy will be applied to reactivate the tissue functions.

* 2. Suis Organs and Urinary System

Pyelon Suis

Its low dilutions are quite useful in chronic kidney diseases, lithiasis and in any impregnation or degenerative situation of the kidney pelvis. High dilutions are usually better suited to acute and inflammatory affections, in particular for: kidney colics, hydronephrosis, etc.

Ren Suis

Low dilutions directly stimulate the kidney function and are useful in the organ's degenerative phases, particularly when a preexistent hypertension is accompanied with nephrosclerosis. These dilutions are useful in any chronic kidney disease, in albuminuria, etc. High dilutions modulate the kidney function and are best suited for plethora, hypertension in the starting and weak phase, acute glomerulonephritis, hematuria.

Ureter Suis

Low dilutions stimulate the ureteral motility and are suited to cases of hydronephrosis, calculosis and generally in any chronic kidney disease.

High dilutions are indicated when there is basically an obstructive problem, that is when the reactive and somewhat harmful uretral activity should be regulated: prostatic hypertrophy, scarce vesical function, etc.

Vesica Urinaria Suis

Low dilutions stimulate the urinary excretion and are quite useful whenever we want to stimulate this excretion tract. They are useful in any chronic disease where the impregnation is prevailing, as well as in more specific pathologies (hydrophrenosis, chronic nephropathies, etc.). High dilutions are suited when the pathology in progress has stimulated or inflamed the bladder and the nearby organs; therefore these dilutions are useful in cases of: cystopyelitis, prostatic adenoma, bladder hypertrophy, etc.

3. Catalysts of the Krebs Cycle

Natrium Oxalaceticum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause a particular sensibility of the kidney tissue to every kind of pathogenic attack.

It is quite useful in acute and chronic inflammations of the urinary system with tendency to cysts, hemorrhages, calculi and evolution of nephrosclerosis. There's usually a pressure pain in the kidney region and a marked tendency to perspiration with a strong ammonia smell. There is also a frequent urination of small quantities of urine. Urine smells of sparrow-grass (asparagus).

It is useful also in case of kidney damages caused by excessive salt and strong spices, use of alcohol and medicines toxic for kidney, contact with insecticides and several chemical substances as, for example, sulphuric acid.

Natrium Pyruvicum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause alterations in the tissue reactivity to pathogenic attacks.

It is most useful in the recurrent and relapsing inflammations that lead to an eventual phase deepening. The administration of this intermediary catalyst reestablishes a correct tissue response and sets itself against acute and localized inflammations inclined to be relapsing and chronic

It is particularly suited for cystitis, urethritis and pyelonephritis that are always characterized by an intense and lingering bacteriuria and a bad urine smell. The germ concerned in the matter could be the tubercular microbacterium. It is also useful during or after a scarlet fever for the prevention and treatment of the kidney damage connected with it. The evolution of such affections in pyelitis, nephritis and nephrosis is quite frequent. It is a basically good stimulus also for lithiasic diathesis and kidney colics, particularly if caused by a cold. It is useful for the urinary sphincter atony or in general for incontinence.

It should be always used for papillomas and vesical carcinomas that start after repeated cases of acute cystitis.

It is well suited also for prostatitis and cancer in the prostate that develops in subjects with a tendency to inflammations in the pelvic region. This is the great homotoxicological remedy that starts useful, even if sometimes lively, Regressive vicariations. These vicariations should be joined with a careful emunctory stimulation.

Acidum Cis-Aconiticum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause a reduced resistance to sudden changes of temperature and a general sensibility or weakness that is the natural consequence of a basically allergic situation. On the urinary level there will be a tendency to chronic cystitis with sudden and periodical worsening, often, but not necessarily, connected with hemorrhages and calculi expulsion. Urine is abundant and clear.

Acidum Citricum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause alterations of the tubular function with a lacking reabsorption of the several metabolites and a tendency to develop a deficiency of the local defenses with consequently frequent cystitis from Escherichia coli, particularly during the summer. This remedy is therefore useful in metabolic disorders and uric diatheses that occur in subjects worsened by a too sedentary life. We could also have albuminuria, glycosuria and polyuria, even if there are no particular subjective symptoms.

Acidum Alpha Ketoglutaricum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause deficiencies of the deep organic sensitivity; therefore even serious illnesses can evolve to quite advanced phases without giving any sign of its presence. This physiological situation is typical in old age. The muscular function is particularly altered. This catalyst is suited in lumbagos that have a clearly renal origin, even if they always occur as arthrosis in usually oliguric patients without albumina or sugar in the urine.

This is the main remedy for kidney failure often with parenchymal alterations that are already visible through echography; these alterations are connected with a latent nephrosis that has developed for a long time and finally bursts out quite seriously.

Often these patients have quite rough calculi that show few symptoms. This remedy is very important even in many kinds of urinary incontinence, for muscular deficiency either in children or in old people.

There will be loss of urine with cough outburst, enuresis during the night and a difficult sphinteric control often connected with prostatic hypertrophy.

Barium Oxalaccinicum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause a particular deficiency of the tissue immunologic response with a tendency to polypoid and cancerous proliferations. This catalyst is useful for kidney diseases, even in an advanced phase, for the general clinical improvement (attenuation of headache, vomit, etc.) and for the stimulus on the level of metabolism and marrow. It has a certain spasmolithic and diuretic effect and it is therefore suited in nephrolithiasis. It has a trophic effect on urinary mucosas protecting it from the damages of the urine stagnation. It is a very important therapeutic complement in cases of vesical or prostatic cancer.

Acidum Succinicum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause a difficult recovery after debilitating illnesses, hemorrhages and dose pregnancies.

Often this situation occurs paraphysiologically in young children and old people. This catalyst is useful for cystitis, urethritis or relapsing prostatitis in a weakened subject. Sometimes the inflammatory process is located on the pyelic of renal level and can therefore cause quite serious cases of chronic nephritis.

Urine usually contains big quantities of bacteria and leukocytes. Cold worsens and sometimes sets off a clinical outline that is often characterized from the symptomatological point of view by pains in the kidney area.

This is the remedy for the kidney or vesical calculosis from stasis in an exhausted subject. It is also useful for prostatitis and urinary incontinence in old people.

Acidum Fumaricum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause arterial hypertension with face cyanosis and cold perspiration. This remedy is particularly suited for the prevention and treatment of the damages on the kidney level from arterial hypertension.

Often kidney calculi occur giving a lot of clinical problems such as pain and hemorrhages. This situation is often connected with a tubula damage with albuminuria and glycosuria. This remedy is therefore useful for cystopyelonephritis with retention for its trophi and stabilizing effect on the level of the urinary mucosas; this effect can be exploited also after operating damages, pain, etc. on the vesical level. It is important also for urinary retention in children. This remedy should be used in the treatment of tonsillary pharyngeal infective illnesses that tend to cause complications on the kidney level. It is a useful complement in the therapy of gonorrhea, scrotum eczema and other inflammations of the external genitals.

Acidum Malicum

Failures on the fundamental levels of the Krebs Cycle cause an altered mesenchymal reactivity with tendency to tissue impregnation and degeneration.

This remedy is quite useful for after effects of inflammatory renal diseases that tend to develop towards the organ's sclerosis either in the polyuric or in the oliguric phase that is characterized by urine with fetid or acetone smell. In this situation glycosuria is quite frequent.

It should be used also in case of chronic cystitis of uncertain origin with vesical incontinence and tenesmus.

There is always a pressure pain with headache in the lumbar region. Since the symptoms aren't actually marked, often patients come under our observation too late.

This remedy can be also considered as a complementary therapy in the vesical carcinoma that develops with a scarcely painful symptomatology.

4. Nosodes

Bacterium Coli

This nosode is very important for urinary affections particularly when there is scarce but frequent urination with pain and burning in the end. The renal region is usually painful and there is often tenesmus and hematuria. Urinary problems are always worsened by damp cold and drinking milk.

Bacterium Proteus

This is the fundamental nosode for cystitis and pyelonephritis characterized from the clinical point of view by violent urethral pains and stiffness in the kidney region; these affections are caused by wine, cold meats and salami and from excessive temperature.

Calculi Renales

It is an important nosode that should always be combined with the basic therapy in case of lithemic tendency, hypercalciuria and recurrent inflammation of the urinary tract.

Coxsackie Virus A9

This nosode is seldom used, but should be taken into consideration in case of damages to the urinary system after an influenza or if there is a certain tendency to develop inflammations within this system.

Cystopyelonephritis Nosode

This is a very important nosode that should be taken into consideration not only for consequences from inflammations of the urinary system but also when complex clinical outline starts on the urinary level. Sometimes it can be an extraordinary unblocking remedy.

Streptococcus Haemolyticus

It is the fundamental nosode in case of acute or chronic glomerular nephritis and in general in case of proteinuria, hematuria, cylindruria and olyguria with tendency to hyperazotemia.
